Mary Jane Stanton Whitehurst, 96, of Petersburg passed away on Monday, November 24, 2008. Born in McKenney, she was preceded in death by her parents, Harry Lamar Stanton and Lillie May Adams Stanton; husband, Julius Amos Whitehurst; brother, William Lamar Stanton; and her sister, Mabel Virginia Jackson. Mary was an active member of West End Baptist Church. She worked at Edison Pen Company and Arnold Pen Company and later retired from Titmus Optical with 25 years of employment. She is survived by her daughter, Jane Whitehurst Leatherman and husband, Charles; grandchildren, Mark Curtice Leatherman and partner, Jeffrey Miller, Tami Sue Herman and husband, Charles and Amy Lynn Findley and husband, Craig; great grandchildren, Brooke Ellen Herman, Logan Phillip Herman, Mallory Ann Findley, Molly Elizabeth Findley, Mary Grace Findley and Megan Marie Findley and precious nieces. The family would like to express their thanks to the staff of Golden Living Center and to Asera Care Hospice. The family will receive friends at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service on Friday, November 28, 2008 from 5 to 7:30 pm and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. A funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, November 29, 2008 at West End Baptist Church in Petersburg. Burial will follow in Blandford Cemetery.
