Mary Jo Trussler Humphries, 87, peacefully passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2023. Her soul is now with Jesus awaiting his glorious second-coming. Mary was born in Christiansburg, VA. She was the daughter of late John Allen Trussler and Anita Hartsock Trussler; she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Hilton Humphries; and her brother, John Allen Trussler, Jr. Mary was raised in Pulaski County, VA, where she met the love of her life, Roy Hilton Humphries. The two of them settled in Hopewell, VA, where they raised their three children. They were active members of West End Presbyterian Church. After retiring, they moved to Lake Gaston, in NC. They were among the original members of Lake Gaston Baptist Church, where it was their great joy to be a part of serving and helping to grow the new church there. Mary is survived by her daughter, Diane Humphries Shorter, of Henrico, NC; sons, Roy Hilton Humphries, Jr., of Daytona Beach, FL, and Allen Dale Humphries, of Hopewell, VA; sister, Brenda Trussler Hollar, of Chester, VA; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 29, 2023, at West End Presbyterian Church, 1600 Atlantic Street, Hopewell, VA 23860, with the Rev. Brad Antill officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, VA. The family will receive friends at the church, prior to the service at 10:00 a.m.
