Mattie Maitland

Mattie Newcomb Maitland, widow of David Lesley Maitland, Jr., died on Saturday, April 11, 2009 after a brief illness. She was a native of Dinwiddie County, VA and lived there until 1966 when the family moved to Newport News, VA. She was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church where she served on many committees. Mrs. Maitland was a graduate of Dinwiddie High School in 1942 and attended Smithdeal Massey Business College. She was the daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Marvin Newcomb, Sr of Dinwiddie County, VA. Also preceding her in death are her brothers, Marvin Newcomb, Jr. and Robert Earl Newcomb, both of Petersburg, VA. Surviving Mrs. Maitland is her devoted daughter Nancy Maitland and granddaughter, Rachel Maitland Bolan, both of Baltimore, MD. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Ann Newcomb of Petersburg, a niece, Beverly Newcomb Butler and husband, Randy, a great nephew, Brandon Butler all of Atlanta, GA and other nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 103 S. Adams St., Petersburg, VA 23803 Wednesday, April 15, 2009 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM., and Thursday April 16, from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. A graveside service will take place at Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Road, Petersburg, VA 23805 Thursday, April 16, 2009 at 1:00 PM with the Rev. Helen Casey-Rutland officiating. A Memorial service will be held at Grace United Methodist Church Friday, April 17, 2009 at 1:00 PM in Newport News, Virginia.
