Maxine Bishop Coburn

Maxine B. Coburn, 91, of Church Road, passed away on June 9, 2015. Born in Dinwiddie, VA on October 3, 1923 she was the daughter of the late John Alfred and Mary Elizabeth Williams Bishop; and was also preceded in death by her husband, Hubert E. “Tommy” Coburn. Mrs. Coburn was a longtime member of Central Baptist Church and was also a well-known seamstress in the community. She is survived by two sons, Sonny Coburn (Nancy) and Gerry Coburn (Glenda); one daughter, Carol Vaughan (James); five grandchildren, Eddie Coburn, Stacy Layne, James Coburn, Steve and Gregory Vaughan; ten great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Betty Bishop. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jonathan Waits and the Rev. Dr. Robert Rowland, officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, VA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Crater Community Hospice, 3916 S. Crater Rd., Petersburg, VA 23805.
