Maxwell E. Greene passed away on July 26, 2024, at the age of 85 in Chester, Virginia. Born on July 28, 1938, in Atlanta, Georgia to Clyde and Ewart Greene. He grew up in Atlanta where he graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology and was a devoted alumnus and fan of the Yellowjackets.
Following graduation, Max served in the Army Reserves and married Sarah Anne McMillan in 1965. He moved to Merced, California in 1972 where he was employed by the Kendall Company and later by Merced College. He was an active member of the community, a good friend to many, and a member of Merced United Methodist Church until 2016, when he moved to Virginia to be closer to family.
Max will be remembered for his love of his family and pets, fishing, exploring national and state parks, gardening, the San Francisco Giants, good food, and traveling. Those who knew him best will also remember him for his dry sense of humor, the fantastic animated bedtime stories he created for his children and grandchildren, laughing at his own "dad jokes," quoting lines from Monty Python and Will Ferrell movies, and singing silly made up songs.
Max was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Sarah. Left to treasure his memory are his daughters, Sally Maxwell (John) and Rebecca Greene (Scott Bjorn); his son, Edward Greene (Kimberly); grandsons, Patrick Maxwell (Amber), Eric Maxwell (Adrienne), and Henry Greene; and his twin brother, Mike Greene.
Max was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Although his absence leaves a hole in our hearts, we're comforted knowing that he is at peace in Heaven.
