Melbourne James Pearson

Melbourne James Pearson,89 of Hopewell, VA, passed away on July 9, 2017. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jacob J. Pearson and Gladys Schools Pearson; and his loving wife of 48 years, Winifred “Winnie” Pearson. He is survived by his step son, Wayne Tuck and wife Martina; daughter, Cheryl Stone; sister, Vivian Lee; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; as well as numerous extended family and friends. Mr. Pearson was a U.S. Army veteran serving during WWII in the European and Pacific Theaters; after returning home he attended East Carolina University. He then went on to work for over 38 years for the U.S. Postal Service before retiring. Mr. Pearson was a past Post Commander of Jacob J. Pearson VFW Post 637 Hopewell, and a longtime member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Hopewell. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens 11302 Merchants Hope Hope Rd. Hopewell, VA 23834.
