Melvin C West

Melvin C. West, 82, of Chester, passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2015. Born in Mecklenburg County, he was the son of the late Roy R. and Louise Poole West. He was also preceded in death by a son, David Alden West; and three brothers. Melvin is survived by his wife of 58 years, Charlotte Landis West; two daughters, Linda Faye West and her husband, Bryan K. Gilbert, and Beverly West Stotesberry and her husband, Jeffery T. Stotesberry; three grandchildren, Lauren Brooke Stotesberry, Thomas Hunter Stotesberry, and Jacob Alden Stotesberry; two brothers, Peter J. West and wife, Betsy of Bluefield, VA, and Wade C. West of Roxboro, NC; two sisters, Weeda West Buchanan of Kittrell, NC, and Josephine West Blackley and her husband, Marshall of Kittrell, NC. Melvin was a Veteran of the United States Army. He retired after 43 years of employment with Honeywell, Chesterfield. He was a member of the Bermuda Optimist Club and a faithful member of Rivermont Presbyterian Church. Melvin was a Prince George Master Gardener and proudly volunteered many hours at Heritage Gardens and Weston Plantation. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
