Melvin Andrew Wright, 83, of Lakeland, FL, formerly of Richmond, VA, died Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. Born May 13, 1927 in Richmond, VA to Harvey and Sally Pugh Wright, he moved to Lakeland in 1984 from Richmond, VA. He was a self-employed tile contractor and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in both WWII and the Korean War. He was a member of the Lake Gibson Nazarene Church in Lakeland. Preceded in death by his parents and a brother, he is survived by: his wife of 64 years, Catherine; 2 sons, Ronald Wright and his wife Virginia of Winter Haven and Donald Wright and his wife Melinda of Winter Haven; 3 daughters, Judy Wright of Lakeland, Wanda Mahler and her husband Carl of Richmond, VA and Brenda Goff of Richmond, VA; and 4 sisters, Beverly Hudson, Jean Harris, Maria Sawyer and Kathleen Flack all of Richmond, VA.; 15 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm Monday, September 27th, at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home, with Scott Campbell officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, VA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
