Merton Edwin Hill, 92, of Chester, VA, passed away on February 7, 2021. He is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert T. Hill and Mabel Churchill Hill; his wife of 55 years, Marilyn Lorraine Hill (formerly Lawson) and sister, Nancy Allaire. He is survived by his son, David Allen Hill (Kris); son, Steven Edwin Hill (Hannelore); daughter Susan Jane Hill; son, Reverend Richard Hill (Louise), daughter Cindy Rice (Randy); grandchildren, Jennifer Hill Knight, Jason Hill, Matthew Hill, Andrew Hill, Sarah Hill, Nathan Hill, Carolyn Hill Villano, Joanna Hill George, Emily Hill Shank, Erik Hill and Joshua Gray; great grand kids, Olivia, Liam, Gavin, Eliana, Graham, Grace, Aria, Bentley, Evander and Genevieve and his siblings; Howard Hill, Shirley Hill Haas and Gloria Hill Johnson. Mr. Hill served as active duty in the United States Army from October 25, 1948 to June 25, 1952 when he was honorably discharged. Three of those years he served as a refrigeration mechanic. He graduated from WPI (Worchester Polytechnic Institute) from Night School on The GI Bill, he graduated Cum Laude with an associate degree in Electrical Engineering in April 1956. He moved from his birthplace of Brockton MA, to VA in 1956 and started work with Allied Chemical as an electrical engineer. He was transferred to New Jersey in 1969 and continued to work with Allied Chemical and ended his career with Honeywell Corp., retiring in 1994. He moved back to Chester VA at the end of his work career and remained in VA until his death. In High School Mr. Hill played football. He loved golf and new technology. His interests included computers, he loved music and being a father and devoted husband. He adored his grandkids and great grandkids and was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Chester. He had a wonderful sense of humor and always had a great outlook on life that he passed on to his family. The family will hold a private service at a later, to be decided date.
