Michael J. Dunford, age 92, died on January 8, 2011. Mr. Dunford was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve Schaefer Dunford and an infant son, Patrick Thomas. He is survived by two sons, Michael S. Dunford of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Patrick Dunford of Hopewell, Va.; two daughters, Mrs. Sally D. King of Cornelius, NC, and Bridget J. Dunford of Nebo, NC.; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Laue, Rebecca McCamy, Amy Kastner, Susan Dell, Tony King, Lisa King, and Cynthia Fisher; eight great-grandchildren, William McCamy IV, Elizabeth Ann McCamy, Michael Stephen McCamy, Chloe Marie Kastner, Lillian Patricia Kastner, Alexander James King, Benjamin Michael King, Gunnar James Fisher; and a sister, Mrs. Joyce Wilcox of Syracuse, Indiana. Michael was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin with a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Army Air Force as a First Lieutenant. He was a B-17 Bomber Pilot in the European Theater and flew 30 plus combat missions over Belgium, Germany, and France. Michael received the Air Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Bronze Medal with 3 battle stars. After completing his service, Michael was employed by Kimberly Clark Corporation in Neenah, Wisconsin, and then transferred to Coosa Pines Newsprint Company in Alabama. In 1956, Michael was employed by Continental Forest Industries in Hopewell, Virginia. He worked there for 27 years and retired in 1983 as Production Manager. The Mass of the Resurrection will be at St. James Catholic Church in Hopewell on Friday, January 14, 2011 at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. James Catholic Church, for Mass intentions or to the Roof Fund, 510 W. Poythress Street, Hopewell, Va. 23860, or to the charity of your choice. The family is being served by the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home.
