Michael Carroll Mathews

Michael Carroll Mathews, Sr., of Chesterfield, VA, died November 29, 2023. Born and raised in Hopewell, VA, in 1946, he was the son of the late James Carroll and Florence Heretick Mathews. He was a loving father and grandfather. He was a 1966 Hopewell High School Graduate, and had a forty-plus year career in fiber production working with Allied Chemical, Honeywell, and Magellan. He was a lifelong history buff, car enthusiast, and, with his brother, Jim, spent many years competing in local dart leagues. He is survived by his son, Michael Mathews, Jr. and wife, Valerie L'Herrou, of Richmond; daughter, Natalie Hawkins and husband, David, of Chesterfield; grandchildren, Katie Mathews, of Martinsville, Jack Mathews, of Richmond, Ace Cecka, of Richmond, and Zach Langster, of Richmond; his brothers, Jim, Steve, Paul, and Patrick; and sister, Kathy. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, followed by an interment at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Petersburg. A reception will be held after interment at 307 N. Sycamore St., in Petersburg.
