Michael J. Purvis, 62, of Prince George, VA, peacefully passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2022 after an 18 month battle with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis aka Lou Gehrig's Disease). He was born March 5, 1960 in Hopewell, VA to the late John H. Purvis and Marie E. Purvis. Mike retired from Weinstein Properties in 2015 and was Director of General Services for Prince George County from 2017 through 2021. Mike was a member of Unity Baptist Church in Prince George, where he served as a Deacon and a member of the Missions Team.
Mike had many fond memories of his days of playing softball. He also loved playing golf and fishing. He especially lit up when he had the opportunity to spend time with his daughter and grandsons.
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Karen Purvis; daughter, Whitney Purvis Blankenship (BJ); his grandsons, Liam 7 and Carson 5; his sisters, Terry Warren (Travis), Robin Watkins (Tommy), Sharon Reynolds, Sophie Skelton (Marc); and a host of other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held at Unity Baptist Church on Friday May 27, 2022 at 11:00 AM, with a visitation from 10:00-11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens in Prince George, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Michael Purvis to the ALS Association MD/DC/VA Chapter.
