Michael "Mike" Thomas Sundbeck, 65, of Chester, VA, passed away April 21, 2022. Born and raised in Manistee, Michigan, he was the son of the late Edward J. Sundbeck, Sr. and Alice Picardat Sundbeck. He was a 1975 graduate of Manistee High School and a Navy veteran and reservist. After 39 years of service, Mike retired as a Technical Consultant with Dominion Energy. Valuing the importance of community involvement, Mike was a member of the American Legion, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and a life member of the VFW Auxiliary. Grill master Mike enjoyed being part of the Chester meat-smoking/grilling community where he thrived, mentoring those around him in the art and sharing the fruits of his labor. Other hobbies and interests included maintaining a well-manicured lawn, bicycling on the Capital Trail, fall trips to the mountains, and Lake Michigan beach time. In his younger years, Mike played softball with co-workers and was a member of a bowling league. Above all else, Mike valued spending quality time making memories with family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Pamela Bowman Sundbeck; two daughters, Tina Marie Scott (Michael) and Misty Leigh Sundbeck (fiancé Chris Welborn); son, Michael Thomas Sundbeck, Jr. (Ashley); his grandchildren, Michael Scott, Jr. (fiancé Mikayla Lord), Madelyn Scott, Andrew Sundbeck, Bailey Mayer, Krista Mayer, Chelsea Mayer, and Maddox Mayer; one great-grandchild, Mitchell Scott; two brothers, Edward Sundbeck, Jr. and Allen Sundbeck (Mary); three sisters, Patricia Sundbeck, Peggy Kruwell, and Deborah Clark; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, 2022, at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home located at 3050 W. Hundred Rd., Chester, VA 23831. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Deacon Don Fines officiating.
