Mildred Andrews

Mildred Wood Nelson Andrews, 97, of Petersburg, died Monday, May 30, 2011 at Petersburg Home for Ladies. She was the daughter of the late Herbert Lear and Evelyn Evans Wood, and the widow of George Ashley Nelson and Lucius W. Andrews, Jr. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Mrs. Andrews was born in Petersburg and spent her entire life in Petersburg and Colonial Heights. She was a retired civil service employee having worked for many years as secretary to the Commander, Kenner Army Hospital, Fort Lee, VA, retiring in 1976. Mrs. Andrews was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Wood Barrett and three brothers, Ernest Milton Wood, Arthur Lear Wood and General Robert Jefferson Wood, U. S. Army (Retired). She is survived by her nieces, Terrie Wood Mason (Alex, Jr.) of Chesterfield, Shelley Wood Shipp (Henry) of Petersburg, Sally Wood VanOtteren (Gerry) of Grand Rapids, MI, and Claire Barrett Barron of Colonial Heights. A graveside funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 3rd, at Blandford Cemetery with The Reverend Dr. Gerald Miller, Pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 215 S. Sycamore Street, Petersburg, VA 23803 or the Fellowship Fund, Petersburg Home for Ladies, 311 S.
