Mildred Elmore Butterworth, of Petersburg, born January 5, 1911, died peacefully on March 29, 2011 at the Petersburg Home for Ladies. She was predeceased by her parents, George Leonard and Harriett Hardy Elmore and her husband Abner Keen Butterworth. She is survived by her son, Dr. Abner Keen Butterworth, Jr. and wife, Nancy of Columbia, SC and daughter, Harriett â??Poohâ? Butterworth Steele and husband, Bill of Richmond; grandchildren, Anne Butterworth Turner and Evelyn Butterworth May, both of Columbia, SC, A. Keen Butterworth, III of Boulder, Co., William Taylor Steele, IV and Robert Bolling Steele of Richmond; and six great grandchildren. Feild graduated from Petersburg High School and Farmville State Teacherâ??s College â??Longwoodâ?. Feild recently celebrated her 100th birthday in Richmond surrounded by family and friends. She was an inspiration and touched many lives through her positive attitude and caring nature. She always saw the best in everyone; she loved to cook, dance, play bridge and have her daily glass of sherry (sometimes two). A graveside service will take place 11:00 am Friday, April 1, 2011 at the Butterworth Family Cemetery, Dinwiddie County. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations may be made to the Petersburg Home for Ladies, 311 S. Jefferson Street, Petersburg, VA 23803.
