Mildred Adele Dabney Galante

Mildred Adele Dabney Galante, 101, died peacefully at home Friday, January 26, 2024. The daughter of Willie T. and Ethel Mae Dabney, "Mom" was the loving mother of Barbara R. Cofield and Sue Ellen Hudson; the sister of Littie Edwards; and the aunt of special niece, Dian Oliver. She was preceded in death by husband, Frank T. Galante; son, John H.A. Rasmussen; daughter, Joy Marie Downs; eleven siblings; grandsons, Allen Briggs and David Irvin, Jr.; and granddaughter, April Downs. She is also survived by daughter-in-law, Carolyn Rasmussen; grandchildren, Karen Walker, Mark Briggs, Dawn Webber, Kathryn Quesenberry, Dwayne Garrett, Lisa Ball, Ricky Moon, Terry Rasmussen, Melanie Mims, John Downs, Sonja Jackson, Jason Moon, James Downs, and Justin Hudson; and numerous great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

"Mom," as she was known by all, was born in Chesterfield County, raised her family in Hopewell and lived for many years in Bridgeville, Delaware, with her late husband, before returning to Hopewell.

She loved her family, Jesus, her dogs, gardening, and reading. Until recently, she worked the daily crossword puzzle and remained active keeping her yard beautiful and walking her dog, Gracie. She was always an optimist and full of life and laughter.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m., Monday, January 29, 2024, with the funeral service at 11 a.m., Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at J.T. Morriss & Son - Hopewell Chapel, 820 W. Broadway Ave., Hopewell, VA. Interment will follow at Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens, 11302 Merchants Hope Road, North Prince George, Virginia.
