Mildred Diehl Scott Bridgman died Monday, June 21, 2004. She was born February 23, 1917 to Berrimond Thomas and Willie Estelle Diehl Scott in Dinwiddie County. She was graduated from Dinwiddie High School and attended business school in Petersburg. She was married to Rennie Wilson Bridgman in 1943 who predeceased her in 1986. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Rennie W. and Jackie T. Bridgman with whom she had resided for the past three years. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Lori and husband, Aubrey L. Henley, Jr.; her grandson, Wilson Guy Bridgman; her great-grandsons, Tyler Lewis Henley and Logan Scott Henley all of McKenney; two sisters, Katherine Scott Turner and Patsy Scott Pond both of Newport News; and a brother, Thomas B. Scott of Dinwiddie. She was predeceased by a sister, Mary Sue Scott Amis. Mrs. Bridgman was employed as a postal clerk for the U. S. Postal Service in McKenney from 1961 until her retirement in 1979. She also served as temporary Postmaster on one occasion. She was a faithful member of Mansons United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school, was active in the United Methodist Women, and served as the church historian. She served as a volunteer for the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society and was a member of the Dinwiddie Historical Society. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Mansons United Methodist Church, McKenney with interment following at Butterwood United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family requests that contribution be made in her memory to the Mansons UMC Building Fund, 19516 Depot Road, McKenney, VA 23872 or Crater Community Hospice, 840 W. Roslyn Road, Suite E, Colonial Heights, VA 23834.
