He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Roberta J. "Cookie" Hawkins; four children, Louis "Peewee" Hawkins, Jr. (Cindy), Wade E.S. Hawkins, Toni Hawkins Anton (Jim), and Johnathan A. Hawkins; nine grandchildren, Milton "Louis" Hawkins III, Nathan T. Also survived by a loving Aunt who he referred and called "Mom", Alice Pinner; loyal friend, Jimmy Grubbs; several nephews; and his four-legged loved therapy dogs, Twinky and Dinky who there with him till the end.

Lou grew up in Chester and was known by many as his family lived in the small town for over 100 years. Family and friends were everything to Lou. He was one of the first Chester Volunteer Firefighters and volunteered at St. Mary's Hospital after spending some time in the hospital for health issues. He was very thankful for all the doctors and nurses that took care of him over the years and wanted to give back and honor them.

He worked for General Electric for 29 years before he retired. His career with GE took him to places a little boy from Chester never dreamed about. He loved his career so much he desired for all of his children to follow in his footsteps and work for GE or serve our country in the military. But if asked he would have told you one of his one his most favorite jobs and past times was Chester Little League Coach for baseball and football for 9 years. He enjoyed teaching the game but he cherished all the memories from the kids he coached. Till his last day he could be found watching the Little League of America and reminiscing of his time coaching.
Also, in Lou's spare time he enjoyed camping, fishing and watching sports and NASCAR.
