Minerva C. Cox, 100, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2008 at James River Convalescent Center in Newport News, Virginia. Born in Wakefield, VA on December 22, 1907 she was the daughter of the late Emmett W. Carroll and Minerva White Carroll. Mrs. Cox was the widow of Beverly B. Cox, Jr. She was a retired real estate secretary and a member of Hilton Baptist Church in Newport News, a longtime resident of Hilton Village in Newport News and a member of the Hilton Garden Club.
She is survived by a son, Dr. Beverly B. Cox, III and his wife, Dr. Brenda E. Cox, of Suffolk, VA; a daughter, Jacqueline C. Thomas and her husband, Harold B., of Wicomico, VA; a granddaughter, Jennifer C. Nelson and her husband, Michael, of Suffolk, VA; three grandsons, Richard R. Johnson, Jr. of Tappahannock, VA, David G. Johnson and his wife, Tracey, of Newport News, VA, Gregory H. Thomas and his wife, Christina, of Wicomico, VA; three nephews, Benjamin Carroll of Wakefield, Dr. Clyde Carroll of Suffolk, and Buddy Goodrich of Chester, VA., and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a grandson, Brian B. Cox.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 4, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in the Purviance Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Wakefield, with the Rev. Robert Parks of Main Street United Methodist Church in Suffolk, officiating. Interment will follow in the Wakefield Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
