MINNIE HILL BURTON, 95, widow of Garland Cole Burton, Sr., died Tuesday, October 4, 2005 in Yorktown, Virginia. Born November 19, 1909 in Prince George County, VA., she was the daughter of the late James Hill and Minnie Lee Livesay Hill. Mrs. Burton was a resident of Surry County most of her life and for the past 20 years she was a resident of the Peninsula. At the time of her death she was the oldest living member of the Dendron United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Burton, affectionately known to all as ?Granny?, was a loving mother and grandmother. Her long and blessed life was devoted to her family and to her church.

She is survived by two sons, Richard Lee Burton, Sr., and his wife, Shirley, of Chesapeake, and Carl Martin Burton and his wife, Shirley, of Smithfield; four daughters, Norma B. Crocker and her husband, Cecil, of Smithfield, Alice B. Morgan of Dallas, TX, Judith B. Applegate and her husband, Vernon, of Hampton, and Virginia B. Galdos and her husband, Manuel, of Yorktown; 22 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Retta Burton of Williamsburg. She was predeceased by two sons, Garland Cole Burton, Jr. and James Hill Burton, Sr.

Funeral services will be held at Dendron United Methodist Church, Rolfe Highway, Dendron, Virginia, on Thursday, October 6, 2005 at 2:00 p.m., with the Rev. Ray Rowland officiating. Interment will follow in Brandon Church Cemetery, Burrowsville. Memorial donations may be made to Dendron United Methodist Church, Surry Charge, P.O. Box 118, Surry, VA 23883. Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, assisted the family with arrangements.
