Mont James Jefferson, 91, of Chester, Va., passed away on Thursday, October 25, 2012. He was born on March 29, 1921 near Moundsville, WV. He was a veteran serving in the Army/Air Force during World War II in North Africa and Italy. Mr. Jefferson was active in the Chester Masonic Lodge 94 AF & AM, serving as the Tiler for several years. He was also a member of Richmond Commandery #2, Knights Templar of Virginia, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry 33 degree, and the Manchester Royal Arch Chapter No.48. Mr. Jefferson was a graduate of Moundsville High School and Ashland Junior College in Ashland, KY earning membership into Phi Theta Kappa. He retired from the Defense General Supply Center as a Security Police. After his retirement, he started his own business, Jefferson Office Machines and Service and was an expert mechanic on vintage typewriters. Mr. Jefferson is preceded in death by his parents, Tony L. Jefferson and Delta Dakan Jefferson; step-mother, Texie Dakan Jefferson; twin brother, Maurice W. Jefferson; brothers, Paul L. Jefferson and Harold D. Jefferson; sisters, Ila Mae Argiro, Juanita “Nita” Kerrigan and Louise Elder. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Edith Mae Duvall Jefferson; daughter, Rebecca L. “Becky” Jefferson of Guilford, CT; sister, Virginia Lee Crawford Morgan of Dayton, OH; brother in-law, Harold S. Duvall of Fairmont WV; sister in-law, Dorothy Jefferson of Arlington, VA, and numerous nieces and nephews. A Masonic service will be held at 2:00 p.m. followed by a visitation until 4:00 p.m. at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home Sunday, November 4, 2012. His funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 5, 2012 also at the funeral home, officiated by Michael Moore, Pastor of Enon Baptist Church.
