Morris Ray Purdie

Morris Ray Purdie, 78, of Petersburg, VA, passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Marinda Kersey Purdie; his loving wife of 46 years, Barbara Marks Purdie; and a son, Ricky Purdie. He is survived by his daughters, Kimberly McCann (Earl), Sherry Purdie (Michael), and Tonya Gregory (Thomas); sons, Steven Kitchen, Michael Kitchen, and Carey Kitchen; grandchildren, Zachary, Ethan, Danny, Austin, Corey, Steven Jr., Merissa, Shelby, Brandon, Joseph, Angela, Kristina, Michael, and Stacey; numerous great-grandchildren; a sister, Diane Aliceburg; numerous nieces and nephews. A loving father, Mr. Purdie enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He worked at Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company for many years until the plant relocated. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 21, 2015 at the Dinwiddie Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
