Morris Alan Thompson, Jr.

Morris "Alan" Thompson, Jr., surrounded by friends and family, passed away peacefully at his home, in Chester, VA, after a long battle with declining health, he was 82. He is survived by his loving wife, June Tomlin Thompson (affectionately known as, his "cowboy sweetheart"); son, Morris Alan "Mat" Thompson III (Monika); step-son, Kevin A. Bultje (Natalie); step-daughter, Karen M. Bultje; grandchildren, Lee Alan Thompson and Kelsie Marie Nicholas (Jonathan); step-grandchildren, Erika Middleton, Andrew Bultje (Kennedy), and Alyssa Garrison (Ben); one great-grandson, Oliver James Nicholas; brother, Warren A. Thompson (Brenda); two sisters, Patricia T. White and Robin A. Thompson; sisters-in-law, Joan Bell, Jo Johnson, and Charlene Armstrong; brother-in-law, Woody Tomlin (Marsha); and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Alan was born on December 4, 1942, in Salisbury, MD, to Morris Alan Thompson, Sr. and Virginia June Marshall Thompson. He graduated from Manchester High School, in 1961, and attended the University of Richmond. He retired from his dream job at 3M, after 39 years of faithful service in his position as Regional Manager of the eastern United States.

Alan was an accomplished horseman, competing in the professional rodeo circuit for the better part of 45 years. He was also passionate about his music. Alan was a talented guitarist and enjoyed being the lead singer and manager of the Longhorn Band.

On October 4, 1958, he was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, dedicating his life to God in service of neighbors, friends, and family. He was an active member of the Colonial Heights, Virginia, congregation and served as a ministerial servant.

Alan has always been known for his generosity, but mostly for his sense of humor, always ready with a joke.

The family will receive friends from 6 pm until 8 pm, on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 2 pm, on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at the same location, with a reception to follow. The family would like to extend a special thanks to his loving sisters, close friends, especially, Terijo and Eddie Bruce, for their endless support during his last days. Much appreciation to Dr. Hirsch, of Richmond Nephrology and his dedicated nurses, Emily and Jamie, of DaVita Dialysis, Prince George. The family is also grateful for the loving care provided by Enhabit Hospice and their nurses, Lee and Crystal, during his transition.
