Myrna Marsh Matthews, 96, a longtime resident of Petersburg, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2015. Born October 1, 1919 in Toledo, OH, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd James and Murnie Jones Wileman. She was also preceded in death by her husband and the father of her two children, Joseph Frederick Marsh, their daughter, Diane Marsh Mattson, and her second husband, Claude Edwin Matthews. Mrs. Matthews attended the University of Toledo and was the assistant manager of the Miller & Rhoads store in Petersburg. She was a member of Washington Street United Methodist Church, the Federated Women’s Club of Petersburg, and was instrumental in organizing the Interfaith Adult Daycare, of which she served as a volunteer and Board member for many years. In addition, she was a Past President of the Residents Council of the Petersburg Home for Ladies. Mrs. Matthews is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Marsh Jennings of Gainesville, VA; grandchildren, Krista Ripley of Rochester, MN, and Jeffrey Mattson and wife, Michele of Carlsbad, CA; great-grandchildren, Emily, Daniel, and Elizabeth Ripley, Julia and Daniella Mattson; step-son, John W. Matthews and wife, Felecia of Fairfax, VA; step-grandchildren, Jessica and Nicole Matthews; and a great-great-grandson, Samuel Matthews. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 29, 2015 at the Petersburg Home for Ladies.
