A Life of Grace and Joy: Sue Epperson Ferrell (1931-2024)
The world became a little less bright on May 23, 2024, with the peaceful passing of Sue Epperson Ferrell, at the age of 92. Born on September 18, 1931, on the family farm Charley Hope in Brunswick County, Virginia, to the late Wilson and Blanche Moore Epperson, Sue spent her life bringing smiles to the faces of all who knew her.
Sue's modeling and fashion career began in the heyday of the iconic Miller and Rhoads department store in Richmond. However, her most cherished role was as the Legendary Santa's Snow Queen on the Children's Santa Train ride between Ashland, VA and Richmond, VA. She continued delighting customers with her warmth and style at Miller and Rhoads Tea Room, as well as Wice's, Montaldo's, and beyond.
While her professional accomplishments were many, Sue's greatest joy was her family. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Anne Andrews and Laura Epperson Gray; and brothers, James Epperson and Wilson Matthews Epperson. She leaves behind her son, W. Maclin Ferrell, Jr. (Susan Hyatt); daughter, Molly M. Lee (Harry G Lee, Jr.); five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A woman of grace and kindness, Sue will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a children's charity of your choice in honor of the joy Sue brought to so many young lives.
Graveside service will be held on Monday, June 3, 2024, at 11 AM, at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.
