Nada Louise Smith

March 9, 1936 — July 2, 2023

Nada Louise Scott Smith, 87, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2023, at home with her loving family by her side.

Nada was born on March 9, 1936, to the late Mallie & Dixie Scott in Layland, WV, where she lived until she was two. Nada grew up in McDowell County, WV. She moved to Chicago where three of her five children were born, then moved to Lincoln County to raise her family. After many years, Nada moved to Chester, VA to be near family.

Nada was preceded in death by her late husband, Ronald Berlin Smith, Sr.; son, Gregory Vincent Smith; grandson, Seth Lee Smith; and son-in-law, Greg Linville. She is survived by her husband of 19 years, Jack Smith; four children, Ron & Tonya Smith, Mallie & Willie Breedlove, Tresa Linville and Tony & Peggy Smith; two sisters, Zollie Ellen Scott Brinkley and Peggy Sue Scott Allen; seven grandchildren, Chris, Jamie, Luke, Morgan, Jessica, Courtney and Spencer; fourteen great-grandchildren, Devon, Jonah, Sara, Chase, Hallie, Rachel, Chelsea, Vinny, Emma, Severe, Corbin, Avery, Genevieve, and Joe; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Nada loved the Lord and her family immensely. You would always hear her say "I love ya honey" and "come back and see me soon." Nada loved her collectibles, especially salt & pepper shakers, ladybugs, and owls.

Nada had a long career as a seamstress and tailor. Her favorite class in high school was Home Economics, where she learned to sew. She worked for a few years as a seamstress while she lived in Chicago and after moving back to West Virginia, into the Charleston area, she began working at NuWay Cleaners in their alterations department. The largest tailor shop in Charleston, Joe the Tailor, had an opening for an experienced seamstress and Nada stepped into that role. Joe DeMarco, who was an old school tailor from Italy, took her under his wing and taught her the skills he had gained over many years. And when Joe retired, he sold his shop to her. She grew the business, and both altered and made clothes for several West Virginia governors and political figures, and most of the lawyers and businesspeople in Charleston. She worked for national figures such as Elvis and Reba McEntire. Everyone knew her. Nada was a master craftsman, and her work was always in demand.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 9, 2023 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home - Chester Chapel, 3050 W.
