Nancy Allsbrook Cross

Nancy Cross departed this life peacefully on April 21, 2023, at the age of 84. Nancy was born February 12, 1939, in Edgecombe County, Tarboro, North Carolina to Robert Brinkley and Mattie Allsbrook of Tarboro. Nancy was the third child in a family of six children and graduated from Tarboro High School. She married Robert E. Cross on May 23, 1957, in Tarboro, North Carolina, where they resided for a couple of years before moving to Hopewell, Virginia and later to Richmond, Virginia. Before they divorced, they had two children, Robert ("Eddie") and Kimberly ("Kim"). Nancy was a devoted stay-at-home mother to her children.

Nancy had a love for music. She enjoyed listening to live music and playing the tambourine at family reunions. Elvis Presley was her favorite musician and celebrity personality.

Nancy is survived by one brother, Rudy Allsbrook (Janice) of Tarboro, NC; two sisters, Melba Allsbrook of Richmond, VA, and Johnnie Faye Taylor of Tarboro, NC; and six grandchildren- Eddie's children, Jennifer Gobble (Shawn) and Amanda McAulay (Ryan), and Kim's children, Rachel, Ricky, Michael, and Kyle. She is also survived by loving nieces and nephews and several great-grandchildren.

Nancy is preceded in death by her son, Eddie Cross; daughter, Kim Cross; parents, Brinkley and Mattie Allsbrook; sister, Annette Allsbrook; brother, Brinkley ("Buddy") Allsbrook; and divorced husband, Robert Cross.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 28, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Visitation held one hour prior.
