Nancy Johnson Seavy, 81, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at her home in Hopewell, VA. She received a BA Degree in English at UNC in Greensboro, NC in 1949. She was predeceased by her parents Luther and Christine Johnson of Richmond, VA. and brother, Frank of San Antonio, TX. Her husband of 54 years, Jack Seavy, survives her along with brother, Dick Johnson, and children, Pam Taylor, Betty Trout, and George Seavy and grandchildren, Allison and Lauren Taylor, Carley and Jeff Trout, and Olivia and Everett Seavy.
Her lifelong activities reflected a love of the performing arts, public relations, marketing, and family. In Hopewell in 1964 she co-founded the James River Ball, which is very popular to this date, with proceeds benefiting local arts programs. In 1965 she co-founded the Theatre Workshop for Young Artists for training young actors. She also co-founded the Thelma Olaker Youth Civic Ballet Company in 1974. She was a charter member of the Jordan Point Country Club, served on the Executive Board of the Historic Hopewell Foundation, was active in the Appomattox Garden Club, and contributed her marketing and public relations skills to the successful election campaigns of area politicians including U.S. Rep. Robert W. Daniel.
Moving to Medford, NJ in 1980, she established her own public relations firm with nine clients at one point. She later concentrated her efforts as Director of Marketing and Publicity for the Ritz Theatre for 18 years helping it to become the most successful theatre in South Jersey. She received the Encore Award from the South Jersey Cultural Alliance and was a member of the Haddonfield, NJ D.A.R. She found time to teach high school level government and English in Hopewell, VA and Glens Falls, NY.
The family will receive friends at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Friday, May 1, 2009 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.. A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 2, 2009 at 11:00 AM in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Michael Browder, pastor officiating. A private graveside service will be held at Monticello Memorial Park in Charlottesville, VA.
