Nancy Lee Sheffield passed peacefully on Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at Dinwiddie Health and Rehabilitation Center, after a courageous battle with Dementia/Alzheimer's Disease. She will be sorely missed by those who knew her throughout her 82 years on earth, but has gone to a place where her memory and health are restored, and she can once again fly with the angels. She was born on June 27, 1932 in Alexandria, VA, to Charles Samuel and Jane Elizabeth Sheffield. She grew up in Matoaca where she lived most of her life. She retired from C&P Telephone Company after thirty years of service as a telephone operator. She was a true operator, having worked the switchboard in the original office on Union Street. Nancy loved going to estate sales and auctions with her son, and was always looking for the best deal. She took pride in giving back to the community, working at Good Shepherd's Place. She enjoyed the company of friends and spending time at McDonalds with them. She was a loving mother, sister and aunt. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Mary Ann Smith. She is survived by her devoted son Charles Frank Lewis of Matoaca and brother, Charles N. Sheffield of Matoaca. She leaves to cherish her memory special nieces, Jill Thomas and Janet Douglas, and grand niece, Joy Beth Freudig, also numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Robert Rowland officiating. Interment will follow at Blandford Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
