Nell Virginia Vergara

Nell Virginia Vergara, 96, of Hopewell, VA departed this life on Friday, February 5, 2021 and went to enjoy her heavenly rewards. She was the youngest of nine children of James T. and Blanche Cobb of King William County. She is survived by her five children, James (Gayle), Felicia V. Omick (Chuck, who preceded her), Joseph (Cindy), George (Dianne), and Kevin; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and other extended family members.
A devoted member of St. James Catholic Church since 1946, she was fully involved in the St. James School PTA when her children attended. She was an active enthusiast of any sport her children participated in and while she loved many sports, her greatest sports love was the New York Yankees Baseball Club and the University of Notre Dame football. She had a great interest in antique furniture and enjoyed cooking, both southern style and Italian. An avid gardener and flower lover, she loved spending time in her garden feeding the birds and squirrels that made her yard their home. She was fascinated about new things, but the thing she loved most was spending time with her children and their families. She always said you don’t need material things to be happy as long as you had your health and family. Nothing was more important to her than the happiness and well being of her children and their families. Let’s go Yankees and Go Irish!
A Rosary Prayer Service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, February 15, 2021 in St. James Catholic Church, 510 W Poythress St, Hopewell, VA 23860. Funeral Mass will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at church. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Richmond, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. James Catholic Church or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
