Nellie Thompson

Nellie C. (Matthews) Thompson, 90, of Brandermill Woods, Chesterfield County, widow of COL William W. Thompson, Jr., USAF (Ret), died Saturday, October 2, 2004. A native of Portsmouth, VA, she was the daughter of the late William Leonard and Katherine Aloysius Hughes Matthews. She worked as a bookkeeper for the Norfolk Mattress Company, served as a volunteer for the American Red Cross for over 50 years and was active in various community service organizations. She was a charter member of the Chester Federated Women’s Club and a past president of the Bellwood Women’s Club. Mrs. Thompson is survived by a son, William W. Thompson, III and wife Sandra of Kaneohe, HI; a daughter, Elizabeth Joan Thompson Benka and husband Daniel of Prince George; grandchildren, Matthew Daniel Benka of Richmond, William W. Thompson, IV and wife Melanie of Franklin, LA, Joanna Katherine Tucker and husband Duane of Bayfield, CO, and Marci Michele Thompson of Chicago, IL; and a great-granddaughter, Kyla Madison Tucker. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am Saturday, October 9, at the Chesterfield Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park.
