Nelson Burl McCauley, 72, of Chester, VA passed away on Monday, September 7, 2020. Born in Hopewell, VA he was preceded in death by his father, Andrew Burl McCauley; his mother, Opal Browning Bradshaw and her husband, Letcher; his wife, Jacqueline A. McCauley; and a grandson, Casey Duke. Mr. McCauley had faithfully served his county in the United States Air Force and had achieved the rank of Sergeant. He had retired from DuPont after many years of dedicated service and had served at several local volunteer Fire Departments. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and had attended services at Thrive Church. Mr. McCauley is survived by his daughter, Katherine Duke and husband, Rodney; a son, Steven McCauley and wife, Ronda; two step-children, Susan Dietz and husband, Bruce and Kim Irving; seven grandchildren, Mary O’Brien (Sean), Ryan Duke, Michael Oglesbee, Cory Irving, Jaclyn Szurek, Nicholas Grũtzmacher and Alexandra Shows; three great-grandchildren, Brantley, Harlynn and Graham; a sister, Fay Brooks; one brother, Wayne McCauley (Kay); and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 2020 at Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, VA. The family is being served by the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 1622 E. Parham Rd., Richmond, VA 23228 in memory of Nelson McCauley.
