Nina Lee Pitman

PITMAN, Nina Lee (Kennedy) of Chester, VA passed peacefully August 20, 2016 at age 81. Nina was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Myrtle Kennedy and brother John. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, John R. “Dick” Pitman, her daughter Carrie Hopkins (husband Robert) and son Jeffrey (wife Amanda) as well as her adoring grandchildren; Jenna Hopkins, Jacob Pitman, Haley Hopkins and Avery Pitman and her sister and brother, Ginger and Frank Kennedy of Las Vegas, NV. Nina graduated from Western Michigan University in 1957 and then taught at her high school alma mater Grand Rapids Central before getting married. Nina was a long time member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Chester and active in many church programs. Over the years she also volunteered for the local literacy council helping others as she loved to do. Nina was the true loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed family to no end. Each year she treasured her time with the whole family being together in Nags Head for their annual family vacation. She was known for her unconditional love and support to all and will truly be missed. Funeral arrangements are being handled by J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 3050 W. Hundred Rd, Chester, VA. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 24th from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be at St John’s Episcopal Church, 12201 Richmond St, Chester, VA on Thursday, August 25th at 2 pm with interment in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, VA. A reception will be held at St. John’s Church following the burial. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Nina’s honor to St. John’s Episcopal Church, Chester, VA.
