Norma Lee Denson Kilpatrick, age 92, passed away on October 18, 2024, in Lynchburg, Virginia. She was born in Petersburg, Virginia, to the late Dennis M. "Lefty" Denson, Sr. and Ruth Lee Faison Denson, on April 7, 1932.
Norma was preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years, James H. "Jim" Kilpatrick; her parents; brothers, Garland Denson and Dennis Denson, Jr.; sisters, Lillian Denson Bridgman and Jean Denson Hutchinson; and son, Larry Michael Kilpatrick. She is survived by sons, Russell, Brian "KP" (Kathleen), and Dennis (Aleeta); seven grandchildren, Lori (Kilpatrick) Gregory, Mercedes Vaughn, Jennifer Kilpatrick, Jessica (Kilpatrick) Melin (Ben), Alyssa Ross, Kristin Tucker (Bert), and James Kilpatrick; and ten great-grandchildren.
Norma grew up in Petersburg, Virginia. She married Jim on October 14, 1952, at Fort Lee, Virginia. As an Army wife, she supported her husband in various duty assignments, living in Germany, France, Georgia, Oklahoma, Washington, and Kansas, while raising four sons. After 15 years of moving around the world, she returned to Petersburg while Jim was deployed to Vietnam, and remained in her hometown for the next 52 years, prior to moving to Lynchburg.
She lived a life of service as a caregiver for her son, Larry, in his illness, her father, Lefty, and her husband, Jim. She also served as a hospice volunteer at Crater Community Hospice.
Norma enjoyed dancing, music, and bingo, as well as arts and crafts, including baking birthday and wedding cakes, and sewing many of her own dresses. She was a life member of the Women of the Moose #1296 in Dinwiddie, Virginia, served as the Senior Regent (President), and is a graduate of the College of Regents.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 2 P.M., at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior. Interment will be private.
She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed.
