Norman Lewis Skelton, 87, of Matoaca, VA, died Saturday, June 18, 2016. Born in Petersburg, he was the son of the late Norman Claude and Lula Mae Oveby Skelton. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Maude M. Skelton; son, Norman Claude Skelton; brother, Ernest C. Skelton; sister, Gloria Lesie; and granddaughter-in-law, Amy Jarrett Cornett. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Mr. Skelton retired from Hercules, Inc. after 38 years of service. He loved spending time at the river and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed wood working in his retirement years and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 882 in Petersburg. Mr. Skelton is survived by his daughters, Betty Tagnesia and husband, Tag, of Illinois, and Norma Jayne Cornett of Matoaca; son, Donald Wayne Skelton of Richmond; step-daughter, Teresa Marshall of Colonial Heights; step-son, Roger Dale Marshall and wife, Barbara, of Hopewell; grandchildren, Elliott Burklund, Daniel Cornett, Arron Cornett, Tracey Hartnett Devyak, and Chris Cornett; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Brandon Cornett, Barrett Bishop, Alexa and Colin Devyak, and Jackson Burklund; brothers, Morris E. Skelton and Ronald J. Skelton and wife, Joyce; sister, Ann Warren and husband, Bill; sister-in-law, Esther Skelton, as well as several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Southlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crater Community Hospice, 3916 S.
