Olga Alarcón Alvarez, 74, of Colonial Heights, died on Friday, May 20, 2016. She was born in Cuba the daughter of the late Pedro and Olga Gonzalez Alarcón. Olga immigrated from Cuba to the United States in 1967 and became a U.S. citizen. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she was an active member of the Hispanic Committee. She also volunteered at St. Joseph Catholic School for numerous years as a substitute teacher, PTO member, and cafeteria volunteer. Olga was an assistant Spanish teacher at Richard Bland College as well as a volunteer with the Petersburg Health Department. She was always willing to lend a helping hand, giving her time to assist families in need in the Petersburg area. Olga is survived by her husband, Eduardo L. Alvarez; a daughter, Hilda Alvarez Bass and her husband, Steven; a son, Eduardo G. Alvarez and his wife, Lynn; five grandchildren, Alexandria Bass, Steven Bass, Jr., Michael Bass, Elena Alvarez and Gabriel Alvarez; and a sister, Victoria Alarcón. There will be Wake Service held at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, May 24th with a visitation to follow until 8:30 pm. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 25th at the church with interment to follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
