Olivia Vaughan Dozier passed away on June 17, 2015 at her residence in Dunlop House in Colonial Heights. Olivia was a life-long resident of Ettrick, Virginia until her declining health required her to move to Dunlop House five months ago.
Olivia was preceded in death by her husband Martin H. Dozier, Jr., her parents Spot and Annie May Vaughan and her six siblings, Lucille Harris, Iris Radcliffe, Harold Vaughan, Allen Vaughan, Pete Vaughan and Joyce Nugent.
Olivia is survived by her son William Dozier and his wife Jan of Chesapeake, VA and her daughter Lynn Walker and her husband Curtis of College Station, TX. Olivia is also survived by her six grandchildren, Matthew Dozier and his wife Heather of Atlanta, GA, Frank Dozier and his wife Glory of Nokesville, VA, Kristen Peckham and her husband Christopher of Chesapeake, VA, David Walker and his wife Aundria , Jennifer Drew and her husband Brian and Denise Tsamouris and her husband Ryan, all of The Woodlands, TX.
Olivia, who was affectionately known by them as “GG”, is survived by her nine great-grandchildren - Alexandra and James Walker, Amber and Chance Dozier, Troy, Jake and Grace Drew, Harper and Sloan Tsamouris. Olivia is also survived by her sister-in-law, Mary S. Vaughan of Chester, Virginia and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
The family greatly appreciates all the care, friendship and assistance given to Olivia over the years by her close friends and longtime neighbors Joe Lukie, Rick Vaughn, Brenda Jarrett, Nancy Lewis and Olivia’s niece and nephew Cyndi and Gene Gonzales. Their friendship and wonderful assistance allowed Olivia to continue to live independently in her own home as she wished.
The family thanks the staff at Dunlop House for the excellent care they provided to Olivia and especially appreciates the kindness and wonderful friendship of her life-long friend Charlotte Browder who watched over Olivia daily while she lived at Dunlop House.
Olivia was employed by Standard James and the Progress Index. She was a member of the Ettrick American Legion Post 136 Auxiliary, the Friendship Club and was a life-long member of Ettrick United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Ettrick United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends at Olivia’s visitation on Monday June 22nd from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at J.T. Morriss Funeral Home on South Adams Street in Petersburg. Olivia’s funeral service will be held at J.T. Morriss Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 23rd at 1:00 p.m. followed by burial at Southlawn Memorial Park. After the burial service family and friends are invited to return to Dunlop House in Colonial Heights for refreshments and to celebrate Olivia’s life. Condolences may be registered at
