Patricia Hudson De Butts

Patricia (Patty) Anne Hudson De Butts, 92, passed away August 28, 2017. She was predeceased by her husband, Dale Crissey De Butts. She is survived by siblings Richard G. Hudson, Jr. and Pamela Hudson Krewson; sons, David Alan, Thomas Monteith (Melissa) and James Hudson (Lynn) De Butts; Grandchildren, Kathleen Compton (Kevin), Carrie Ward (Josh) and Cameron Sweet; and Great Grandchild Clara Compton; as well as nieces and nephews.
Patty was born November 18, 1924 in East Lansing, Michigan to Richard G. Hudson, Sr. and Marian Monteith Hudson and grew up in South Bend, Indiana.
Always an avid reader and intellectual, she graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Denison University in 1946 with a Bachelors in Fine Art. In 1971 she earned a Masters in Information Science from the University of Hawaii.
Patty followed an eclectic career path, working in capacities such as “Rosie the Riveter”, Draftsperson, Commercial Artist, Advertising Manager, Magazine Editor and as Information Specialist for the United Nations, Battelle Memorial Institute and the US Information Services.
As a world traveler, she indulged her passion for studying and collecting art and architecture. Patty and her family moved to Hawaii in 1948, to Thailand in 1959, to South Sumatra in 1974, to Egypt in 1977 and to Oman in 1985, finally settling at Lake of the Woods, Virginia in 1987.
Patty was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and Daughters of the American Revolution.
But foremost, Patty will be remembered for her warmth and compassion, her engaging personality and her eccentric sense of humor.
