S Patricia Elaine Mitchell

Patricia "Patty" Elaine Mitchell, 57, of Chester, VA, departed this life on January 5, 2022. Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of the late, MSGT Bobby Lee Cates. Patty is survived by her mother, Jacqueline Williams; her loving husband of 20 years, Cecil D. Mitchell; two daughters, Jacqueline Letsch and Jessica Letsch; and her grandson, Jason. She is also survived by two step-sons, Gary Mitchell (Holly) and Raymond Mitchell (Amy); and five grandsons, Julian, Connor, Gavin, Teagan and Jonah Mitchell; brother, Bryan Cates (Vicki); sister, Maurica Cates; step-brother, Craig Todd (Nikki); step-sister, Maureen Synhorst (Scott); and step-mother, Karen Cates.

Patty was an "Air Force Brat" during the Cold-War and graduated from Kaiserslautern American High School, Kaiserslautern, (West) Germany. While living in Germany, Patty worked in various positions of increased responsibility within the U.S. Civil Service and Non-Appropriated Fund Activities of the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army, supporting our Soldiers and Airman. While serving as the Animal Care Fund Manger of the 64th Medical Detachment (VS), she met and later married Chief Warrant Officer, Cecil D. Mitchell. They departed Germany together in 2004 and settled in Chester, VA where Patty soon found employment at the Headquarters, Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) within the Resource Management Division. Patty had a quick mind and a true knack for numbers, and she excelled at her work in Resource Management raising to the position of Chief, Store Execution Branch.

Patty was a loving and supportive mother and placed the needs of her daughters above her own. Patty loved animals, she enjoyed spending time with her pets, and watching animal videos, she loved working out at the gym and being outside doing yard work. Her favorite leisure activity was going to beach in Florida.

Patty was never one to be idle and was always the first to head outside when there was a task to be done. Patty had a very competitive nature, and in her youth, she played school and intramural sports and in later years she enjoyed League Bowling on a DeCA Team at Fort Lee, VA. Patty loved to watch NFL Football and was an avid fan of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Go Bucs!). Patty was the strongest and most generous person we've ever known, she had a kind and loving soul, and she will forever be missed.
