Patrick Worth Smith, Sr., 82, of Petersburg, passed away Saturday, October 6, 2007 at the McGuire VA Medical Center. Born in Henderson, NC, he was the son of the late Augustus Buxton and Gladys Patrick Smith. Mr. Smith served in the U. S. Navy during WWII and participated in the D-Day invasion on Omaha Beach, Normandy, France. He was the retired long time owner of Smith Plastering and Drywall and was a member of Second Presbyterian Church. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his brothers, Augustus B. Smith, Jr. and Richard L. Smith, Sr. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nell Clapp Smith; their children, Patricia Nell Smith of New Ipswich, New Hampshire, Patrick Worth Smith, Jr. and wife, Delilah of Colonial Heights, Cynthia Lynn Smith of Dinwiddie, and Timothy Clapp Smith and wife, Cheryl also of Dinwiddie; grandchildren, Patrick Worth Smith, III and wife, Lisa, Dorothy S. Adams and husband, Joseph, Phillip M. Howell, Emily A. Howell, Allison K. Smith and Sarah E. Smith; great-grandchildren, Emily T. Smith, P. W. Smith, IV and Madison G. Smith; sisters, Kathryn Curry of St. Simonâ??s Island, GA and Bonnie Ensley of Whiteville, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday, October 8, at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday at Second Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Daniel Hale officiating. Interment will follow at Blandford Cemetery.
