Patti K. Michener, of Prince George, died May 22, 2007. She was born January 23, 1914, in Silverstreet, South Carolina, to the Rev. S.P. Koon and Maggie Fulmer Koon. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Sara K. Zeagler and Nelle K. Culbertson, and by her brother, Lewis F. Koon. Mrs. Michener graduated from Columbia College, Columbia, South Carolina in 1935. After graduation, she taught school until she joined the Womenâ??s Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) in 1943, serving in Europe during World War II. While in the Army, she worked as a research analyst in Military Intelligence, analyzing prisoner of war reports and interrogations. After separation from the Army, she worked for a number of years for an advertising agency in New York City. In this position, she assisted in the first ever televised broadcast of a heavyweight title bout on the Gillette Cavalcade of Sports show. In 1953, Mrs. Michener began a career in Civil Service at Fort Lee, VA and worked there as a Supervisory Education Specialist until her retirement in 1977. Mrs. Michener is survived by a niece, Penelope K. Santilli, and nephews, Robert B. Koon, and Ben L. Koon. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 24, 2007 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
