Paul Laredo Cancino, age 94, went to his eternal reward on July 13, 2023, after a prolonged illness.
Paul is survived by his wife of 68 years, Wilma; and his three children, Catherine, Frank, and Michael (Kathleen). He also had four loving grandchildren, Gaten, Colby (Elizabeth), Harrison, and Blake.
Paul is a 21-year veteran of the Berlin Airlift and the Vietnam War. He served honorably in the Army as a paratrooper, achieving the rank of Sergeant First Class.
After retiring from the Army in 1969, Paul worked at the Firestone Plant in Hopewell for 11 years. In addition, Paul worked at Moral Support Activities Ft. Lee, Va for 23 years.
Paul enjoyed running and racing with his friends in the Tri-Cities Roadrunners. He would run ten miles a day well into his seventies and qualified to run the Boston Marathon.
Paul was proceeded in death by his father, Telesforo Cancino; and mother, Catalina Cancino; as well as seven siblings.
The family has made arrangements with the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. The visitation will be held from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m., Sunday, July 16, 2023, at the funeral home. There will be a funeral mass held at 10 a.m., Monday, July 17, 2023, at St. James Catholic Church, in Hopewell. In lieu of flowers, the family request for donations in Paul's name to the Alzheimer's Association or the Wounded Warrior Project.
