Paul Houston Smith

Paul Houston Smith, 86, of Dinwiddie, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorsey and Lucy Smith; his son, Ray Smith; and his great grandson, Lucas Brown.

Paul was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family, passing on stories to the next generation, and working on the dairy farm.

From 1973 to 2006 Paul managed Whippernock Farm in Dinwiddie County, where he was responsible for breeding and raising Holstein Cows. Paul had one of the top herds of registered Holsteins in the United States and was recognized as one of the top breeders of registered Holsteins in the country.

Post retirement, Paul's focus was on his grandchildren, and he also enjoyed spending time gardening. Paul had a hand in raising the second generation of his family and was working on the third generation. He will be sorely missed by all.

Paul is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Virginia Smith; his children, Brian Smith (Sharon), Penny Brown, Victoria Rizzo (Chris), and Carl Smith (Gail); daughter-in-law, Gayle Smith; 12 grandchildren, Shana, April, Tim, Randall, Andrew, Kaitlin, Tyler, Samantha, Benjamin, Sara, Paige, and Nathan; 11 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Dinwiddie Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 6616 Boydton Plank Road. A funeral service will take place in the chapel the following day on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at 11:00 AM. Interment will immediately follow the service at Trinity Community United Methodist Church.
