Dr. Paul L. Thompson, a native of Muncie, Indiana, died on Monday, July 30, 2018. He is survived by five brothers: Harold Dollison of Muncie, Indiana, Stanley Dollison and Solomon Dollison of Oklahoma City, David Dollison of Alameda, California, and Michael Dollison of Kansas City, Missouri.
Dr. Thompson taught at Virginia State University for 28 years – 17 of those as Chairman of the Department of Languages and Literature. He retired from VSU in 2000 as Professor Emeritus. Dr. Thompson earned the B.A. degree in Political Science from Morehouse College, the M.A. from the University of Illinois in French and the Ph.D. in French from The Pennsylvania State University.
In his academic pursuit of knowledge about the “black diaspora”, Dr. Thompson traveled and studied extensively in Brazil and studied at the following institutions: the University of Paris, the American University in Cairo, the University of Guiana, the University of the West Indies (Mona) and the University of Haiti.
