Major Paul William Tourigny, U. S. Army (Retired), of Sutherland, VA, passed away Monday, October 17, 2005 after a long battle with cancer. Formerly of Lewiston, Maine, he was the son of the late Conrad W. and Carmen Perreault Tourigny. He was a graduate of Lewiston High School and ROTC graduate of Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont receiving commission in USA Signal Corps. Major Tourigny served in the U. S. Army in various military capacities including 12 years in overseas duty and service in Vietnam for which he was awarded the Bronze Star. He was a world traveler and adventurer who enjoyed long-distance backpacking and hiking, and belonged to numerous hiking organizations. In addition, he was a member of Lewiston Lodge of Elks, life member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, life member of Military Officers Association of America, a member of American Legion Post 22 of Lewiston, Maine, and a member of St. John Catholic Church, Dinwiddie, VA. He was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia C. Charest. Major Tourigny is survived by his wife, Shirley M. Tourigny of Sutherland, VA; step-son, Jed M. Birch of Columbus, Ohio; nephew, John W. Charest of Franklin, Massachusetts; and niece, Diana C. Stevens of Annandale, VA. A Rosary Service will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, October 22, 2005 followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at 11:00 AM at St. John Catholic Church, Dinwiddie. Interment with full military honors will be at 1:00 PM Wednesday, December 21, 2005 at Arlington National Cemetery.
