Perry Alton Lewis

Perry Alton Lewis, 79, of Carson, VA, passed away on Tuesday, March 13, 2018. Born in Florence, SC, he was one of four children born to the late Julius Herbert and Nellie Margaret Clough Lewis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Rebecca Brown Lewis; sisters, Virginia Elmore and Dorothy Frye; and brother, Julius Lewis, Jr. Perry joined the Prince George County Police Department April 1, 1963, at the age of 24. In 1974, while working as an Investigator with Prince George County Sheriff’s Department, he graduated from Virginia’s 1st Academy of Forensic Science. Perry proudly served as Sheriff of Prince George County from March of 1986 until his retirement in 1995. While in office, he also served as Chief of Police for several years. He served on the Riverside Regional Jail Authority Board from January 1990 to July 1997. He was a member of Oakland Baptist Church and Edwards Lodge No. 308 A.F. & A.M. He is survived by his daughters, Rebecca L. Wells (Vernon) and Faye L. Lewis (Marshall); grandchildren, Christina L. Spiker, Alex Wells, Beth L. Noseck, Marshall Page Lewis and Will Lewis; great-grandchildren, Becca, Emily, Layton, Kaitlyn, Marina and Damien; great-great-grandchild, Ryleigh, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family would like to thank all of Perry’s dear friends, his Oakland Baptist Church family, his law enforcement family, his Strosnider Chevrolet family, and his dear caregiver, Charlotte. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Oakland Baptist Church, 12601 Prince George Dr., Disputanta, VA 23842. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Oakland Baptist Church.
