Mr. Phillip Burks Stinnett, 86, of Hopewell, VA, died Monday, April 16, 2012 at Chippenham Medical Center in Richmond, VA. He was born in Roanoke, VA. Mr. Stinnett served in two military branches: the Navy during World War II and the Air Force following the war. He retired from Allied Chemical in Hopewell, VA. Mr. Stinnett was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Hopewell and Church of the Sacred Heart in Petersburg, the Knights of Columbus Council 4568, and the American Legion Post 146. He was the son of Richard Dewey Stinnett and Mary Murphy Stinnett. Mr. Stinnett was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Jeanette H. Stinnett. Surviving are his five children: Phillip B. Stinnett, Jr. and wife Diane of Cedaredge, CO; Thomas J. Stinnett and wife Barbara of Indian Trails, NC; Edward W. Stinnett and wife Prudence of Warrenton, VA; Richard J. Stinnett and wife Margaret of Wake Forest, NC; and Mary S. â??Missyâ? Hayes and husband Michael of Hopewell, VA; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Joan Thomas of Roanoke, VA, and Evelyn Elliott of Parkersburg, WV. A Memorial Mass of the Christian Resurrection will be held Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 11:00 AM at St. James Catholic Church in Hopewell with Father Frank Wiggins officiating, with a time of food and fellowship to follow.
