Phoebe Lois Lumbus, 70, of Petersburg, passed away Monday, April 24, 2006 after a fifteen year battle with Parkinsonâ??s Disease. Born in Phelps, KY, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Dorse and Sella Hayes Miller. Mrs. Lumbus graduated from the Clinch Valley Clinic Hospital School of Nursing, Tazewell, VA in 1955 which began a 30 year career in nursing as an LPN-C. Following her retirement, she and her husband, Alvie J. Lumbus, enjoyed traveling, making their home in California, New York and Germany before returning to Virginia for the remainder of her life. A loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she is survived by her husband of 22 years, Alvie J. Lumbus; her children, Rhonda Kim Bowers and husband, Kevin, Ralph Dean McNew, Phoebe Denise Adams and husband, Walter, Lelia MarSella Jordan and husband, Jay, Connie Garnette Moody and husband, David, Donald Glenn McNew and wife, Cheryl, and David Wayne McNew and wife, Toby; grandchildren, Brett Lois Bowers, Rhonda Haley Bowers, Ashley Morgan Adams, Jason Wayne Jordan, John Abner Jordan, Victoria Chaisce Moody, David Cornell â??Moody Jr.â?, Isabella Glenn McNew, Breana Paige McNew, Colby Wayne McNew, Kiley Grace McNew, Justin Robert Broom, Cletus Robert â??Bobbyâ? Jackson and Brett Avery Jackson; step-children, Robert A. Lumbus and wife, Sharon, Cindy L. Penhollow and husband, Bryce, Susan M. Penhollow and husband, Jeff and Michelle R. Powers and husband, Craig; step-grandchildren, Matthew Penhollow, Mitch Penhollow, Elizabeth Penhollow, Richard Powers, Kenny Powers and Jason Lumbus; sisters, Geneva â??Sissieâ? Dollar and husband, Jay, Shirley Maynard and Vivian Rudowicz; brothers, Denver Miller and wife, Lorene, Arthur Miller and wife, Donna and Danny Miller and wife, Wilma. â??We hold you dear to our hearts.â? The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 PM Thursday, April 27, at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday at First Christian Church, Petersburg. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park.
