Plato George Eliades, born in Hopewell on January 24, 1930, died Tuesday, January 20, 2004 at his residence. Mr. Eliades graduated as salutatorian from Hopewell High School in1947 and attended the University of Virginia where he received his B.S. in economics and his LLB in 1953. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1956 as a First Lieutenant with the Judge Advocate General and received an Honorable Discharge. Mr. Eliades practiced law in Hopewell from 1956 to 1995 retiring from the active practice of law, but still attending to the business of his law office. Mr. Eliades was a long-standing member and Past-President of many civic associations, including The Lions Club, The Moose Lodge, and The Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees) from which he was the recipient of the Key Man Award. He was instrumental in establishing numerous commercial and real estate ventures, including small loan companies and savings institutions as well as hotels, restaurants, shopping centers and subdivisions. Mr. Eliades was devoted to education and was integral to the formation of Hopewell College prior to the creation of the Community College System. He was predeceased by his parents, George H. and Parthanope Sarantides Eliades. Surviving are his wife, Jane M. Eliades of Chesterfield, two sons, John Frederick “Rick” Eliades and his wife Leslie of Prince George, P. George Eliades II and his wife Adrienne of Chesterfield, four grandchildren, Avery and Colby of Prince George, Trey and Christopher of Chesterfield, a brother, Homer C. Eliades and his wife Ruth Ann of Hopewell, a sister, Thalia E. Kapnistos and numerous nieces & nephews. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6-8 PM in the Hopewell Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, January 23, 2004 at 11 .00 AM at St. John’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Bruce Bevans officiating. Interment will be private.
