Preston Durwood Bain, 76, of Dinwiddie County, passed away on March 24, 2015. Durwood was predeceased by his parents Preston C. and Eunice H. Bain; a brother, Malcolm C. Bain; and his sisters, Janet A. Bain and Gay Bain Sanders. He is survived by his brother Warren C. Bain (Nancy) of Dinwiddie; two sisters, Peggy C. Bain of Highland Springs and Gwendolyn B. Carter of Petersburg. His nephews Preston C. Bain II (Donna) and Warren B. “Chip” Bain (Cindy) were an important part of his life. Other family members include a nephew, Samuel P. Bain; two nieces, Carole G. Carter and Sara Bain Goodwyn; great-nephews, Jacob Bain (Tina), Daniel Bain (Christina), Hatcher Bain and Carson Bain; and two great-nieces, Jessica Elmore (Jon) and Lindsay Johnson (Thad). After serving in the United States Army for several years, Durwood attended Virginia Tech and graduated in 1967. Following his graduation, he spent a number of years working for the John Deere Company in the Roanoke area. He later returned to the family farm in Dinwiddie County where he enjoyed gardening and sharing the fruits of his labor. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 27, 2015 at the Dinwiddie Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at West End Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Hughes, officiating. Interment will follow at the Bain Family Cemetery located on Bain Road in Dinwiddie. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to West End Baptist Church, 6506 Boydton Plank Rd., N.
